PDO Threads Are Here!
THEY’RE HERE!

PDO Threads have ARRIVED at Laserclear and we are SO excited!!
SO, what are they?
PDO Threads are a medical grade, surgical suture commonly used in surgical procedure for suturing your wounds closed, cool huh?
Recently in Korea, there have been AMAZING results for anti-aging effects from the insertion of small threads of this material being embedded into the skin for a period of time. Sounds scary but it isn’t, I swear!
PDO stands for polydioxanone and it is a synthetic polymer that is able to stimulate the synthesis of collagen and restructure our dermis for ultimate anti-aging effects.
PDO threads are able to retain 50% tensile strength within the skin, giving the skin a nice and tight feeling and takes roughly 180 days to breakdown within the skins structure and has a very low tissue reactivity – meaning it causes NO irritation within the skin.
There are currently two types of threads available:
MONO threads are designed to tighten, thicken and improves the skins texture and appearance of fine lines + wrinkles.
LONG threads are barded and work to lift, tighten and rejuvenate the treated area through the extended stimulation of neocollagenesis (formation of baby collagen fibers) within the dermis. This happens due to the extra barbs are surface area of the thread applying more trauma within the skin, resulting in a more prominent lift + restructure.
THE WORKING EFFECTS OF THREADS WITHIN THE SKIN:

WHEN CAN YOU SEE THE RESULTS FROM MONO/LONG THREADS?
Initially the practitioner and patient will notice after the treatment there is immediate swelling and some bruising may also occur post treatment. Neocollagenesis formation takes approximately 12 weeks so, effects are seen best at this time.
HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?
Generically the results will hold and last for 20 months to 2 years, however, this can differ from patient to patient. It depends on how the client takes care, protects and nourishes their skin, if the client has lost weight over that period, smokers, drinkers – these little lifestyle habits ALL contribute to the breakdown of your extracellular matrix (which is composed of your collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans that make your skin feel fresh + plump).
WHAT DEPTH ARE THE THREADS PLACED IN?
MONO threads are placed in the sub-dermal plane, this is the OPTIMAL position for neocollagenesis to be initiated within the skin.
HOW LONG DOES THE PDO MATERIAL STAY IN MY SKIN FOR?
The PDO threads are metabolised by the body through a process called hydrolysis and this occurs 6 months after the procedure. The threads, once broken down, are excreted as CO2 and water within the skin + naturally the lymphatic system will work the waste out of the body. If you were to biopsy the dermis of the skin at this exact point in healing, you would find a unique and fresh Type 3 collagen mesh network in the treated area.
IS THERE ANYWAY TO REVERSE THE RESULT OF THREAD? Small amount of steroid can be introduced into the area of treatment IF necessary.
WHEN CAN I START USING HYALURONIC ACID AGAIN?
Utilise your HA as soon as you can! HA will help the skin to stay hydrated, repair quickly + effectively AND supply the threads with more assistance in neocollagensis – as a hydrated, healthy skin repairs faster than a dehydrated one.
WHY AFTER THREADS AM I NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE HEAT BASED TREATMENTS LIKE LASER?
The threads that you have just had placed within the skin are heat sensitive, meaning that they degrade MUCH more quickly when exposed to higher temperatures. This is due to the fact that heat rises the activity of the cells, meaning that they work to get the foreign body out much faster than what is anticipated. It is advised to AVOID heat based treatments for a MINIMUM of 12 weeks.
If you think threads is something for you or maybe your just not sure what IS for you and your skin, call the clinic on 4324 3375 or book a consultation with us here on our website, we’d love to treat you!
