FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do Anti Wrinkle Injections Work?
The toxin is a neuromodulator that is injected into targeted treatment areas using an ultra-fine needle. It works by blocking the nerve signals needed for facial muscles to contract. It’s the repetitious contraction of facial muscles that causes expression lines and wrinkles. Once injected, the neuromodulator relaxes the muscles and decreases their movement to reduce the appearance of lines or wrinkles in the area. You will see your results gradually over 3-7 days following injection.
What areas of the face can be treated?
Anti wrinkle injections can be used to address lines and wrinkles on a number of different facial areas, including the forehead, eye area (crow’s feet), and lip lines. It may be injected to soften dimpling of the chin. It can also be injected into the muscles of the jaw to help alleviate pain from teeth grinding or for a jaw slimming effect.
What does the treatment feel like?
Treatment is quick with minimal discomfort. The treatment requires no anaesthesia or recovery time. Many people get treated during their lunch break and are able to return to work right after their appointment.
Is it painful?
The procedure is not considered painful. Most patients report a brief period of discomfort during the injection, which does not persist once the procedure is complete.
How soon will I see results?
While the experience of each patient may differ, it usually takes 3-5 days to see the effects. For some, it may take up to 2 weeks to realize the final effects.
How long does it last?
The results typically last between 3-4 months from the date of injection. Over time the body metabolizes the product, leading to the slow return of muscle movement in the treatment area. Patients can choose to maintain their results for longer periods by undergoing periodic maintenance treatments every 3-4 months.
When should I start having treatments?
Some patients may wonder if they are ‘too young’ or ‘too old’ to try Anti wrinkle injections. There is no right or wrong age to start. Patients will be evaluated during a consultation by one of our Medi Cosmetic Nurses prior to treatment. Many millennials are starting to have anti wrinkle injections in their twenties when they first start to notice lines and wrinkles or as a preventative measure.
Is it safe?
Yes, the toxin is an FDA approved treatment for reversing lines and wrinkles. However, patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neurological diseases should not receive these treatments.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are substance/gels injected beneath the skin’s surface to smooth wrinkles and add volume and contour. The products are composed of stabilised hyaluronic acid (HA) which occurs naturally in the cells of the skin. It works by drawing in water and therefore augmenting the skin, thus reducing the wrinkle treated. It is not permanent and is totally biodegradable. Results can last between one to two years. Dermal fillers are very safe and have been used for over a decade.
What areas can dermal fillers be used for?
The face loses volume and contour when we age. The bones and the soft tissue start to break down and contribute to the appearance of sagging. Dermal fillers may be used to replace this volume loss and restore the structural support, giving the patient a more youthful appearance. The aim is to make the face more harmonious and rejuvenated.
For instance, the lips may be injected to improve their shape, size, symmetry and proportion. The cheeks may be injected to make a face more defined and attractive. An underdeveloped chin may be injected to make it appear more projected and proportionate. The nose may be injected to improve the shape and its contour.
What does the procedure entail and is it painful?
Generally, basic dermal filler procedures require no anaesthetic as the dermal filler contains local anaesthetic, however a topical numbing solution can be applied prior to make the treatment more comfortable for the patient. It is simple and straight-forward, involving a few tiny injections directly into the skin, and takes between 15–30 minutes. Make-up can be applied immediately after the procedure and you can go straight back to work.
How soon will I see any result and how long does it last?
Results are seen instantly after the treatment, although this gradually improves over the course of the following 2–4 weeks. Results can last between 9–18 months although optimal results can be maintained over a long period of time through regular repeated treatments. The longevity varies from person to person depending on your requirements and the severity of the wrinkles that are being treated, in addition to the particular dermal filler being administered.
Are dermal fillers safe?
Yes. We use only products with proven safety record. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a substance which occurs naturally in the cells of the skin, thus there is no risk of allergic reactions. Even people with food sensitivities can receive these fillers safely. The brands of dermal fillers we use are available in more than 90 countries and have been used as an injectable cosmetic treatment for more than two decades with an excellent safety record.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS PLLA?
Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) is the chirally correct form of Lactic Acid, meaning that the body accepts it easily as it is the perfect sized molecule. Lactic Acid is a effective AHA (alpha-hydroxy acid) and NMF (natural moisturising factor) for the skin – think plumping and revitalising your facial appearance.
Which areas does PLLA treat?
PLLA is used to correct shallow to deep wrinkles and folds on the face. Administered with the appropriate injection technique from a trained specialist, PLLA is clinically approved for:
Deep folds between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), also called “smile lines”
Lines framing the mouth (marionette lines)
Chin wrinkles
How many treatments are required?
On average, a series of three treatment sessions over the course of a few months may be needed. The number of injections at each session will vary, depending on the degree of correction needed and the treatment plan determined by you and your specialist.
How soon will I see results?
PLLA is designed to give you noticeable results that emerge gradually and can last more than two years. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t see immediate results. A few days after treatment, you may look as you did before treatment. This is normal and temporary. The PLLA regimen delivers its full effects with an average of three treatment sessions over the course of a few months. Because results happen gradually, you’ll see subtle, yet noticeable, results in the reduction of facial wrinkles and folds by comparing images before treatment and a couple of months following treatment.
How soon after treatment can I wear makeup?
You may apply makeup several hours after treatment. Be sure to consult your Cosmetic Nurse Injector after treatment.
Is PLLA safe? What are the side effects?
PLLA is FDA approved and has been used worldwide since 1999. PLLA is made of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid that is absorbed naturally by the body and has been used for years in dissolvable stitches.
Since PLLA does not contain any human or animal components, no allergy testing is needed prior to treatments.
Side effects reported include injection site pain, redness, bruising, tenderness, itching and lumps, bleeding or swelling. Small bumps under the skin can sometimes be noticeable when pressing on the treated area. Larger lumps, with or without inflammation, have also been reported.
The types and duration of side effects may vary.
